“Cyberworkplace: a close-knit group of people helping youngsters further develop their talents”

Please introduce yourself.

I am Else Maria van der Meulen, and I am director / owner of DDFR. DDFR is an internet service provider in the Northern Netherlands. We offer services in the field of network and security. My background is in business information and computer science, also known as technical informatics. In July this year, I completed the latter after more than 12 years of study break. My graduation topic was “Detection of botnets in DNS data using machine learning”. A fascinating topic to get started with, both from a cybersecurity perspective and from a machine learning perspective.

When did you join Cyberworkplace?

I joined Cyberworkplace in January 2020 as a board member. The great thing about Cyberworkplace is that it gives young people an opportunity to gain knowledge and possibly get started in this fascinating field. It cuts both ways, young people get a chance, and society gets the much-needed cyber talents. I get a lot of satisfaction from being able to contribute to this.

What did you like about Cyberworkplace?

It is a close-knit group of people, each of whom wants to contribute to the Cyberworkplace mission by helping young people further develop their talents and thus contribute to the cybersecurity community.

What is your most favorite moment at Cyberworkplace?

There are several moments, but the best is when young people from Cyberworkplace find their way to an internship or a traineeship where they can develop further.

Describe Cyberworkplace with three words.

Community, fun, learn.

How do you see Cyberworkplace in five years?

The basis of Cyberworkplace will remain the same, namely offering young people opportunities further to develop their talents in cybersecurity, but with coverage throughout the Netherlands. A large part of the workshops can be followed online. Yet, meeting one other in real-life is also very valuable.

Is there anything else that you would like to add?
